Shower Pumps

What is a ground source heat pump?

It is a type of heat pump that uses the temperature from the ground outside a building and converts it into a renewable energy that is used as a system to heat your hot water and radiators.

What makes it a renewable energy source?

Well to answer this we first need to understand what renewable energy means!

In basic terms it is energy that comes from a source that’s won’t ever run out. It comes naturally from our environment such a wind power, solar power and hydroelectric, and helps to reduce your carbon foot from.

What is its fuel source?

A electricity and temperature of the ground outside.

How is it efficient compared to fossil fuels?

A ground source heat pump 400% more efficient than an oil or gas boiler.

This is done by the heat pump using 1kW of energy and produces around 4kWh of usable heat energy.

How does it work?

An ground source heat pump unit is installed inside a building and it is connected to a series of pipes that are laid under ground, they are known as ground collectors. These are laid either horizontally in trenches about 1.5-2meters deep or vertically in bore holes about 100meters deep. At these depths the ground tends to maintain an average all year round temperature of 10-12 degrees.
